Chinese New Year
The hubster and I celebrated Chinese New Year in 2009 at the Chinatown Center on Lamar Blvd. in Austin. If you have never been to Chinatown Center, you really need to go there. They have a giant Asian supermarket and at least nine restaurants. After enjoying the Texas Dragon and Lion Dance Team, we walked around and went into every store, which included two jewelry stores, a video store and an herb store. I made sure to show the hubster a beautiful pair of white gold with drop pearl earrings at one of the jewelry stores just in case he ever has an occasion to buy me anything.
TC Noodle House
Choosing a place to eat was no easy task because of the delicious aromas coming from every restaurant. We decided to try TC Noodle House and it was an excellent choice. All of the restaurants were crowded because of the New Year Celebration, but the staff at TC Noodle House was pleasant and attentive.
We started off our meal with Teo-Chew Shrimp Rolls (Cha Ca Chien). Bite size slices of yumminess.
The hubster ordered Mi Xao Don Thap Cam (stir-fried egg noodles stir with assorted meats and vegetables). A huge plate of shrimp and chicken with mushrooms, broccoli and carrots was enough for two people and I noticed later that two people sitting behind him were sharing the same dish.
My choice, Mi Bo Sa Te (egg noodles with Satay beef), was incredible. Tender beef with cucumbers, tomatoes and onions sat atop noodles covered in a thick sauce with subtle tones of ginger, garlic and chilis.
